This is a hardware compatibility list ONLY for OEM desktop computers. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying a desktop. Don't forget to add how you got OSx86 running on your x86 desktop computer, and to use proper English. Please see the discussion page for proper instructions on how to input your system specs. Also, please contribute to the HCL 10.4.3 page, which should list a more granular view of compatibility. If your computer isn't listed, you should try it if you have a SSE2 or higher processor. Kernels are available for most configured machines
- ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.
- Please add hardware into tables.
- This is for 10.4.3 builds only.
Please list your computers in alphabetical order by manufacturer (Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, etc)
For how to edit the Wiki, please see this thread. Thank you!
See the x86 software page for programs you can run without Rosetta.
[edit]Dell Dimension C521
Method: iDeneb 1.3 DVD
Hardware: Athlon 64, 2.0GHZ, 1GB RAM
Comments: Apply AMD patch, Upon boot, give the command '-v -x -f -x'
[edit]Compaq Presario 5330 CA
Method: Native Install, patched 10.4.1 DVDHardware: Pentium 4, 1.5 GHz, 512 MB RAMComments: Install went well, sound required a patch. LG CD Burner that came built-in also did not work.
[edit]Dell Dimension 2400 P4 2.66GHZ 845
Method: Native Install, patched DVD with Jas pat
Comments: Instead of using my internal graphics, I use my ATI Radeon 9250, no install errors only 1024*768, also sound and network works with no errors, DVD Player will not open as video is not compatible with Quartz nore Core Image. Rosetta works just delete all ATI kexts if you have this card installed.
Dell Dimension 3000 ch
Method: Native install, Patched with Wesley's Patch
Hardware: P4 HT 3.2GH, 1Gig, Ram, AIT Graphics
Comments: Install went perfect no problems at all. Everything seems to work great, safari crashes a lot but itunes works just fine. Havnt been able to make system crash. Ethernet Works great, usb 2.0 works great, Audio does NOT work, but i havnt put to much time into that, when i come up with a fix ill post it here.
Update:Got the audio to work YAY!!! If your like me and could see the volume control on the top right corner of your screen, then you dont need to mess around with all that 'kext' stuff. thank god. To get sound to come out of stereo speakers, go to Utilities, Audio MIDI Setup, and select the AC97 output (Properties for.. second item). Select 6 channel (6ch-16bit) and click Configure Speakers. Set left to channel 3 and right to channel 6. Apply, then Done. Hooray! Sound!
If you dont have the volume bar then im sorry friend but you gota whole lota bullcrap to search through to get it working. =(
UPDATE:I installed the newest flash update from adobe and safari hasnt crashed since then. so im guessing thats what the problem was.
[edit] Dell Dimension 4600
Hardware: P4(no SSE3), 1GB RAM, ATI Radeon 9800proKernel: maxxuss-v3test with RTC patch./VMWare: Does not boot from Daemon-Tools image with USB drive as main HDD (just hangs during bootup). Not further investigated.Native: Boots perfectly from DVD, installs without any problems. Boot from USB drive fails (waiting for root device error). No panics observed. Avoid DVD+RW media as the built-in DVD burner seems to read them very slowly from Mac OS X (compared to DVD+R).
[edit] Dell Dimension 4700 P4 3.0 530
Method: Native install, patched DVD with Maxxuss
Hardware: Dell dimension 4700 P4 3.0 530, 1.5gigs ram, Intel 915graphics, ich6 audio, NEC DVDR Anti-TPM
Comments: Native install fails - reboots at boot prompt. tried several kernel patches. I think this must be a PAE problem. Certainly the P4 530 supports it, but it is not enabled by bios. There are no options I can find in Dell/Phoenix bios (A09) for DEP, NX, or PAE. I did try the 'non-NX' kernel to no avail. This machine works perfectly with 10.4.1. I'm guessing I could enable PAE under a vmware session, but I really need a speedy native system. I'll just live with 10.4.1 until somebody figures this one out!
UPDATE: Using latest Maxxuss patch (mach_kernel.test) posted 11/23, I think, I was able to boot and install! The CPU has PAE support, but no NX. I was almost ready to throw in the towel..maybe get a 'J' processor..but no need. The previous nonx kernel would not boot. BTW, be very patient installing 10.4.3 native, and use verbose mode..it takes a while! Xbench scores doubled..I'll have to do more testing to see what works/doesn't.
[edit] Dell Dimension 4700C P4
Method: Install from 10.4.1 system using an iso image file to a external Harddisk. Natvie install with a JaS 1111a Patch V4.2b patched iso image file. With burn DVD, installation could not go through.
Hardware: Spec are almost same as 4700 above. only CPU is different.
Comments: Very thing works find. with QE and IC support. . .
[edit]Dell Dimension 8200
Method: Native install, patched DVD with Maxxuss + test4 kernel + AC97 driver
Hardware: Dell Dimension 8200, 1.8GHz Pentium 4 (Willamette), 512MB RDRAM, ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
Comments: This machine has been heavily modified from Dell spec, but still contains the original motherboard and processor, which seem to work fine. Sound is good, two channel, USB works great, all my hard drives are found, and it basically just works fine in general. Dell spec NIC card is supported as well, Intel PRO/100+. Radeon 9600 Pro works perfectly with ATI drivers, only a small bit of artifacting near the mouse cursor.
Another user attempted native install and found other partitions on intended disk damaged but recoverable. Installed instead in VMware, then dd to intended hard disk partition. Method: patched DVD with Wesley ppf; installed Maxxuss 1111A patch; updated kernel to Maxxuss v4 (Much faster!!); dd working VMware image to hardisk partition by booting virtual machine with Linux liveCD.
[edit]Dell Dimension 8300
Method: Native install with macosx_10.4.3_8f1111_for_dtk_userdvd.dmg, converted to .iso, then patched with JaS 8F1111A Generic Patch v4.2b (check http://maxxuss.hotbox.ru/patch_8f1111.html) NOTE: Use this only version for your install! I tried several others with less success. This one works!! Get the original 8F1111-dtk.dmg torrent, check the MD5 to verify it, and then do the patch yourself. Takes two minutes.
Hardware: Stock Dell Dimension 8300, 3.0Ghz HT, 1GB, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, Creative SB Audigy 2, integrated Intel Pro/100 network, clean 20MB IDE HD (and then install to second partition on system drive), stock Dell CDRW Samsung SM348B, Logitech MX500 USB mouse, PS2 keyboard.
Comments: Just burned the DVD, put it in and ran the install on to an old spare 20GB HD (IDE0, jumper set as master). No problems at all with the install, using the above image and patch. (Note that I did check the MD5 checksums to make sure it was a good copy.) Install took 28 minutes, booted right up into OSX after install. Not a single error, pause or panic in the install. Subsequently I installed to a partition on system drive for dual boot. After install, set partition as Primary and Active with Acronis. Use Acronis Boot utility to select dual boots -- works great.
Working:
Generally, runs very well, and very fast performance. I have been unable to make the OSX system crash or freeze in ten hours of testing. ATI Graphics work well, full support. Initial resolution is 1024x768. Reset the resolution to 1280x1024 by setting the values in the boot file (search the forums for simple setting procedure). Some mouse dropping artifacts on scrolling screens, nothing major. I ran the optional ATI patcher script installed by the Jas patcher and noted no real difference in performance. PowerPC apps working. Installed Opera browser (PowerPC app) and it works well, a touch slower than Safari, though. Network is fine, connecting to rest of home network okay. CD Burner works. USB 2.0 working properly with all devices I have tried (usb drives, mouse, hub). Audio works with onboard audio.
Not working: SB Audigy audio is will not work. and will not work. The FireWire port on the card is properly sensed and working. In BIOS, enable onboard intel AC97 audio prior to install. With this enabled, my Audigy card still runs in Win, AC97 audio used in OSX.
DVD Player: was not working with the intitial install. I turned HT off in BIOS (as others have suggested) and then ran the patch script that is installed by the JaS patcher (it is in the Patch folder, added to OSX install). With that patch, DVD video playback works properly.
Tried to install Logitech mouse tools, and got error stating they would not run with this version of OS.
[edit]Dell Dimension 8400
Method: - As above (native 10.4.3 instalation)Hardware: Stock 8400 (P4 3Ghz HT, 1GB RA etc)Working: Generally runs very smooth, keyboard, mouse, dell surround sound all working. Not Working: DVD player did not run originally but fixed (as above) by turning off HT in the bios and running JaS's patch. I cannot guarantee the ethernet as I was running a router without a MacOSX driver, so it may work.
[edit]Dell Optiplex GX260
Method: Native install, patched DVD: Mac OS X 10.4.3 build 8f1111a with Jas patch 4.2b
Hardware: Intel 845G integrated video and motherboard chipset, Broadcom integrated NIC (I think), onboard sound, 20gb internal IDE, P4 2.0GHz, 768mb RAM
Comments: Works great, rock solid. Graphics are not accelerated and will not go above 1024x768, have not looked into troubleshooting this yet. Make sure you set the video memory in the BIOS from 1m to 8m before you try to install, otherwise you'll get 4-bit color which obviously looks horrible. Rosetta works great. No issues.
Just my 2 cents after experimenting with 10.4.6 and 10.4.8 DVD:s.OS X works great on all GX240 GX260 GX270 except for some minor audio and graphics issues.10.4.8 JAS almost flawless on GX260 except the usual stuck with 1024 resolution and no DVD-playback.Need a new graphics card.
[edit]Dell Optiplex GX280
Method: Native install, patched DVD with Maxxuss Anti-TPM
Hardware: P4 650 3.4Ghz with SSE3/XD, 1GB DDR2, onboard Intel GMA915, onboard AC97 sound, WD 250G SATA, NEC 3540 DVD-Burner, Firewire PCI Card, Dell USB Multimedia Keyboard and Microsoft USB Mouse.
Comments: Native install perfectly without any problem. Intel onboard GMA900 QI and CE works, OpenGL, DVD player all works. Built-in Broadcom 1Gb Enet does NOT work, add-in generic ENet card works fine. Sound does NOT work, even copied AppleAC97Audio.kext, it won't load the extension OSX 10.4.3 very smooth and fast, Xbench 1.2 score 103.4
Updated: Sound works now! please check forum: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=4645
Second configuration: I also have a GX280 with 2GB DDR2 in it and am only getting a 72.08 on my CPU test. I tried loading the mach_kernel.orig and it just goes into an endless boot loop. Any ideas what I should do?
Using macosx_10.4.3_8f1111_for_dtk_userdvd.iso, system loads as described above, with sound, no integrated network. System loads onto and boots off of external USB drive just fine, albeit a bit slow.
[edit]Dell Optiplex GX520
Method: Native install, patched DVD with Maxxuss 1.1a patch
Hardware: P4 630 3.0Ghz with SSE3/XD, 512MB DDR2, onboard Intel GMA950, onboard AC97 sound, WD 40G SATA (!), Dell USB Multimedia Keyboard and DELL USB Mouse.
Comments: Same: Native install perfectly without any problem. Intel onboard GMA900 QI and CE works, OpenGL, DVD player all works.
Built-in Broadcom 1Gb Enet does NOT work, added an Intel generic NIC works fine. Sound does NOT work, but I didn't spent time for that. Sure someone else will succed.
System is very fast and un for 1 week without crash.
Update by -A-
I was able to get the onboard audio working by adding 0x27de8086 to my ktext.
Update by Mc
Dell Optiplex GX520 onboard audio howto:
1. Install OSX :)
2. open terminal
3. Type: sudo su <enter>
4. enter password <enter>
5. type: cd /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAC97Audio.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ <enter>
6. type: nano AppleAC97AudioIntelICH.kext/Contents/Info.plist <enter>
7. look for a part of the file where:
<key>ICH6 AC97 Audio</key>
{
.
.
<Key>IOProbeScore</key>
<string>0x266e8086</string>
.
.
}
8. and change <string>0x266e8086</string> into <string>0x27de8086 0x266e8086</string> (thus add 0x27de8086 to the line)
9. type: <ctrl>-x to exit and say yes when it asks you to save the change
10. after exit back to prompt type: kextload AppleAC97AudioIntelICH.kext <enter> you should get smthing like 'kextload: AppleAC97AudioIntelICH.kext loaded successfully
11. check for the sound it should work now..
12. back to the terminal prompt type: rm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache <enter>
13. type: kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions <enter>
14. reboot!!!
15. Enjoy the sound :) (sound is fully operational inputs/outputs/mic in the front and the back are working)
Update by B
The update posted by Mc works perfectly! One minor point though, the following lines:
<Key>IOProbeScore</key>
<string>0x266e8086</string>
do not have to be in this order. Since the only thing to be edited is <string>0x266e8086</string>
just search for this string in the <key>ICH6 AC97 Audio</key> section.
[edit]Dell Optiplex GX620
Method: Native install, patched DVD with Maxxuss Anti-TPM
Hardware: P4 3.2GHz with SSE3/XD, 512MB RAM, Intel onboard GMA950 QI and CE works, DVD Player and Itune also works. Built in NIC does not work. USB and sound works. Display choice goes up to 1920x1440@96Hz .
In order to get NIC works, google for AppleBCM5751Ethernet.kext, or download from http://uploaded.to/?id=zdad0x when it still works.Need manually type in Mac address of the network card in order to get DHCP because the driver can't automatically detect it.
[edit]Dell Optiplex SX280
Method: Native install, patched DVD with Wesley's Patch
Hardware: P4 2.79 GHz HT, 256MM SDRAM, onboard Intel GMA915, onboard AC97 sound, ST 40GB SATA, DELL DVD-Burner, Dell USB Multimedia Keyboard and Microsoft USB Mouse.
Comments: Native install perfectly without any problem. Intel onboard GMA900 QI and CE works. Built-in Broadcom 1Gb Enet does NOT work. Sound does work, copied AppleAC97Audio.kext, loads the extension and gave it the proper PIC IDs all is good. Very smooth and fast,
[edit]Dell PowerEdge SC420
First I modded the PCI Express slot using the instructions here http://www.tkdan.com/SC420/I installed X300 PCI-E and a SoundBlaster PCI sound card.
Method: Native install, patched DVD with Maxxuss Anti-TPM
Hardware: P4 2.53 Celeron with SSE3 256MB RAM, ATI X300, SoundBlaster, QI and CE works, DVD Player and Itune also works. Built in NIC does not work. USB and sound works. Display choice stays at 1024x768. There are some artifacts with the video. Not sure if the video driver is correct. System detected my ATI X300 64MB as a 16MB video card.
[edit]eMachines T1125
Native Install with XP Drivers and Intel Chipsets
Hardware: Celeron 1.3 with SSE2 512RAM Everything works
[edit]eMachines T6524
Method: Native install w/ JaS 4.2b 8f1111a & ATI/IXP driver patches
Hardware: AMD64 3500+ [SSE3], 1.0GB RAM
Comments: Just a few basics to get this thing fully functional: Scousi's or JaS' or Zappadoc's ATI/IXP ATA driver will enable DMA 5; Turtle Beach Micro Advantage will provide reliable audio; PCIe ATI X300 will provide 1280*1024@32 with QE/2DQE/CI. Onboard SATA remains non-functional as of 04.08.06
[edit]eMachines T3406
Method: Native install, patched DVD with Maxxuss Anti-TPM
Hardware: Celeron D 2.93GHz with SSE2, 256MB DDR SDRAM
Comments: On board sound does not work, even with AppleAC97Audio.kext. Sound works fine with my iMic USB sound card. DVD Player.app does not work. Video at 1024x768 only. Works the same under 8F1111 with all the latest patches.

Comments:
Sound is working including VoiceOver, but have not checked for full stereo output and do not have a mic. Despite monitor capability, OS X only allows the 1024x768 mode, apparently the acceleration/QE is not working. First run of iTunes indicated it could not reach the online store, despite Safari working without a hitch. Belkin adapter has an obtuse application you have to run at startup that establishes wireless connectivity. After connecting to a base station, this application can be exited. The Belkin appears to be an Ethernet adapter to the system (motherboard Ethernet was disabled in BIOS). The Logitech mouse needs no driver - OS X works with it and the Epson printer as-is. Both these peripherals were auto-configured and worked from the get-go. The Logitech mouse appears to have 6 buttons to OS X (this is exactly how many it does have), and you can map Expose' functions to the extra buttons. If you want keystroke substitution (like clicking a button to go back in a browser or finder window), Logitech does have a 10.4 driver, but this was untested - do not believe it is in Universal Binary format yet.
Fingerprint (biometric) feature n/a - Microsoft only supplies an IntelliType driver for Windows. Extra keys on the keyboard seem to not have any meaning (or mapping) via System Preferences. The Windows logo key is used as the command (cloverleaf) key for OS X. The Alt key is used for option. No key maps to speaker or eject controls, but OS X recognized this shortcoming and enabled an eject button on the menu bar, which may be turned off.
Optical drive eject buttons (on bezel/cabinet panel) are ignored by OS X. You must use an eject command when a disk is loaded. Front panel buttons do work when a drive is empty, to enable loading.
All dates shown on drivers as well as hexadecimal codes are technical details revealed by Gateway's system scanner. This means some of this information is only pertinent to Windows XP.
[edit]Gateway 420GR
Method: Native install, patched DVD with Maxxuss Anti-TPM
Hardware: Pentium 4 3Ghz SS3, 512MB Ram, ATI PCI Express, two SATA HD, 160GB & 100GB + ATA133 80GB, Windows XP and OSX86 10.4.3, DVD Burner DL + RW, Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse and Keyboard, Ethernet working, Video only 1024x768@32, everything works fast!Wireless card Foxconn WLL-3350 with Ralink 2500 is working fine with Ralink Drivers, only thing is that is recognized as Ethernet by MAC OSX, but works fine with the Wireless utility from Ratlink, DVD Player works fine without problems.
[edit]Gateway 504GR
Method: Native install, DVD Wesleys Patch
Hardware:Pentium 4 3Ghz SS3, 512MB Ram, GMA900 (video works perfect, 1280 x 1024) , one 200gb SATA HD, I've had it tri-booting, DVD/CD Burner (works great) and CD reader, generic PS/2 mouse, generic Gateway keyboard, ethernet works (Intel pro lan/100) Intel HDA does not work :(Works perfectly, except for no sound, although there may be a way to patch that.
[edit]HP/Compaq d530
Method: Native install with 10.4.3 8f1111a with Jas patch 4.2b from external USB CD
Hardware: Intel 865 chipset with Broadcom Xtreme Ethernet
Comments: Network does not work. Video to 1152x864@75 with the video faq. Did not try any fixes for either.
[edit]HP/Compaq dc7100CMT
Method: Native install with 10.4.3 (target SATA disk must be the first SATA disk)
Kernel: Macosx 10.4.3 8f1111 with Wesley's patch and Maxxuss CoreGraphics patch for 8f1111
Hardware: P4 3GHz, chipset Intel 915, 2Gb, Intel GMA900, Ethernet Realtek RTL8139, AC97 on board, Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D
Comments: Only one problem: the system starts without sound (solution: to use AppleAC97Audio.kext compiled for 10.4.3 and to apply chmod, chown and kextload as root). Realtek OK, QuartzExtreme, DVD burner OK..
Method: VMWare 5.5.1 with 10.4.5 Universal Install (paevm=true)
Comments: Installation when smoothly without any problem. Sucessfully Installed. When boot up cause error message 'Unable to find driver for this platform: 'ACPI'
[edit]HP/Compaq dx2000MT
Method: Native install, but had to swap the CD-RW for a DVD-ROM
Hardware: P4 2.80GHz, 512Mb
Comments: Still playing, installed with on board video set to 64Mb
[edit]HP ePC 42
Method: Native install on partition using dd and Deamoo's image
Hardware: Pentium 4 1.6Ghz, (SSE2 only) 20 Gb ATA hard disk, AC'97 BA/BAM intel intergrated audio, 256 Mb of RAM, ATI Rage 128 pro (QE and CI are not supported) CD-ROM ( :P )
Comments: Everything as far as I can tell works, Sound in particular is of very high quality, no extra drivers needed, However OS X86 absolutely refuses to boot if one of the partitions is Windows XP, but boots fine with Windows 2000 on one of the partitions.
[edit]HP Pavilion a1240n
Method: Native install with an install dvd
Hardware: Intel Pentium 4 with SSE3, 1GB DDR2 SDRAM, Intel GMA900/ATI Radeon 9250
Commentes: Took 20 minutes to install. Sound worked, the GMA900 was at 1280x1024 with everything working, but the Radeon did not support QE and had a max resolution of 1024x768.
[edit]HP Pavillion a1245c
Method: Native install, patched DVD with Maxxuss Anti-TPM

[edit]IBM ThinkCentre A30 Model 8191-66G
Method: Native install on partition (10.4.3 8F11
Hardware: Pentium 4 2.6Ghz, 1Gb Ram, AGP ASUS ATI RADEON 9600PRO 128Mb (AGP GeForce4 MX440 128Mb, 128bit), Plextor PX-750A11G)
Comments: Installed from the DVD, works perfect with the external graphics card with both QE and CI. Fotostation 7 mac serial. Installing with the built-in card is almost impossible due to 800x600 and 16 colors mode (although if you know it by heart, you can do it). Burns DVDs, the network works fine, works as fine as an apple machine. Installed on a second identical machine with a GeForce4 MX 440, works fine but without CI or QE.
Does install with a usb DVD drive, tested and confirmed.
COULD YOU PLEASE LET ME KNOW
WHAT KIND OF EXTERNAL GRAPHICS CARD ARE YOU USING?
[edit]IBM A50 Model 8175-PBP
Method: Native install on partition (10.4.3 8F1099 + Maxxuss DVD/ISO Patcher v1.1a )
Hardware: Pentium 4 3Ghz (HT + SSE3 + PAE only), 1G Ram , ATI RADEON 9200 , ATEN Firewire Card + ATA 40G harddisk (NOT SATA)
Comments: Install just like Windows XP even I use ext USB DVD-Rom, All things working but The Radeon 9200 does not have QE or CI (How to fix it ??). Skype Cannot work at all. Can play DVD with VLC but so slow
[edit]IBM Thinkpad R40 (Type 2681) *KAL*
Method: Native install, patched DVD with Maxxuss
Hardware: 1.8GHz Pentium 4 M (3 year old model!) with SSE2 and PAE support but no NX, 512MB RAM, ATI 'Mobility' 16MB onboard, AC97 SoundMax audio, Intel Pro 10/100 Ethernet built in. DVD Patcher 1.1a
Comments: Native install worked first time with default (SSE2 no NX) kernel. No QE or CI naturally, default res of 1024x768x32 is nice and clear and very bright. Onboard network seems to work in 10.4.3 which didn't seem to in .4.1. Audio is perfectly functional and clear on output and line-in and built in mic work as well. Trackpad and pointer both work fine as does USB 2.0 ports.

Hardware: Pentium 4 530 (3.0GHz, 800MHz FSB, SSE2, SSE3); 512MB RAM; Originally shipped with nVidia GeForce PCX5300 128MB, now has ATI Radeon X700 Pro 256MB, both PCI ExpressMethod: 8f1111 DVD patched with JaS 8f1111a patch
Comment: Integrated NIC (Via Rhine III) is non-functional. Added RealTek 8139B card, that works great. Can't comment on nVidia vid card because it got fried before my OS X86 days. ATI vid, as expected, isn't recognized, but works with VESA driver, running 1152x864x32 no problem. Integrated sound works great (CMedia Azalia, a.k.a. Intel HD Audio) - however, there is only output support, no input. PS/2 kb and mouse work great. Did NOT like having my Logitech Marble Mouse trackball hooked up with USB. .

Comment: Onboard AC97-type audio is not detected by OSX. Still need to get the kext loaded with ATI card. Network (Realtek 8139 onboard) works great, though. Everything else is ok.

Method and Comments: DVD ISO image DLed as compressed RAR Bit Torrent (OSX86 10.4.3 build 8f1111a + JaS patch 4.2b) uncompressed RAR and then ISO image burned via Nero to DVD. Straight boot install went without incident and happened faster than on my G4 500 PowerMac. OS X came up easily, 1024 X 768 only config available, Audio & onboard NIC worked out of the box, but wireless non-functional. Installed Adobe CS easily and without issue. Everything looks & works great~! :-)
