I have bought a Buffalo usb 2.0 500gb Ministation external hard drive for my mac book pro OSX 10.8.4 ..


I plugged the HD in and it came up with the warning:

'The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer' .. the options were 'initialise' 'Ignore' or 'eject'


I ve used external hard drives lots and never come across this, its always been plug in and play ???


When I clicked on 'initialise' it opened the Disk utility. Down the left hand side it listed:


- 500.11gb Toshiba MK (Dunno what that is)

- Macintosh Hd

- 500.11gb Buffalo HD

- superdrive (grey and unable to click on)


When I click the 500.11Gb Buffalo HD it gives me options along the top


'First Aid' 'Erase' 'Partition' 'RAID' and 'Restore'


I am stuck.


All I want to do is format the HD, so it can plug in and play and read NTFS
